The Big Switch

Moving from an Android to a new iPhone is incredibly exciting, but the data migration process can be stressful. If done wrong, you could lose years of WhatsApp chat history or thousands of photos. Luckily, Apple has created a dedicated utility that makes this process seamless.

Phase 1: Preparation

Before you begin, ensure both devices meet these criteria:

  • Both phones must be plugged into power. Data migration can take over an hour and drains the battery heavily.
  • Ensure both phones are connected to the same strong Wi-Fi network.
  • Your new iPhone must be on the "Hello" setup screen. If you have already set up the iPhone, you will need to factory reset it to use the migration app.

Phase 2: The "Move to iOS" App

  1. On your Android device, open the Google Play Store and download the official Move to iOS app from Apple.
  2. On your new iPhone, proceed through the initial setup screens until you reach the Apps & Data screen.
  3. Tap Move Data from Android. Your iPhone will display a 6-digit or 10-digit code.
  4. Open the Move to iOS app on your Android device, agree to the terms, and enter the code displayed on your iPhone.

Phase 3: Selecting Your Data

You can now choose exactly what you want to transfer. We highly recommend selecting everything: Contacts, Message history, Camera photos and videos, Web bookmarks, Mail accounts, and Calendars. Crucially, select WhatsApp to ensure your chats are migrated.

Leave both devices alone until the loading bar on the iPhone finishes, even if the Android phone says the process is complete.
