What is CEIR?

The Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) is a database maintained by the Government of India. It keeps a record of all mobile phones, specifically tracking those that have been reported lost or stolen.

Why You Must Check CEIR

If you unknowingly purchase a stolen phone, it can be blocked by network providers, rendering it useless. Even worse, possessing stolen property can lead to police inquiries. Always check the IMEI before handing over cash.

Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Find the IMEI: Ask the seller to dial *#06# on the phone. Write down the 15-digit number.
  2. Visit the Portal: Go to the official CEIR website (ceir.gov.in).
  3. Look for KYM (Know Your Mobile): You can use the KYM feature on the website or download the KYM app from the Play Store/App Store.
  4. Enter IMEI: Input the 15-digit number. The system will tell you the current status (Valid, Invalid, Blocked, etc.).
